Before he became a super successful children’s author, Charlie Higson worked as a decorator, a TV producer and even had his own band called ‘The Higsons’ as well as penning a few grown-up books.

The first Young Bond Book Silverfin was published in 2005 and the series has been translated into 24 different languages! The Enemy series, about Zombies aimed at an older 11+ audience, is now into its third book, which is called The Fear. Click here to visit Charlie Higson’s website.

VIII. H. M. Castor I love the way it makes the characters and story (Henry VIII) relevant and immediate for modern readers. Read more…

Mortal Engines - Philip Reeve The concept of this series – that in the future the oceans will dry up and our cities will be placed on giant caterpillar tracks so that they can trundle around fighting each other - is irresistible. Read more…

The Lord Of The Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien It was a huge influence on me. It’s interesting that although the hobbits aren’t kids (they’re all about seventy years old!) we react to them as children. Read more…
