Julia Eccleshare's comment:

Life in the past was very grim according to this introduction to some of its grosser aspects. Mediaeval habits of sewing children into their clothes for the entire winter or the Chinese practice of breaking baby girls’ feet so they were tiny and straight give visions of why it is better to be a child today! Other gross details tell how witches were tortured and how ancient Egyptians made their mummies. All those who enjoy gruesome details will find this dip into the past irresistible. A great series to get kids into reading.  Titles in the series include Human Body, History, Creepy Crawlies and Animals.
