Julia Eccleshare's comment:

A Picture Books for kids that love Magic.

Shortlisted for the 2010 Blue Peter 'Most Fun with Pictures' Award.

A stunning picture book from Emily Gravett, full of witchcraft, wizardry and magic. We meet a frog trying his utmost to turn himself into a handsome prince from a torn up spell book, resulting in inevitably confusing consequences. It has the same cut up chaotic charm of the award winning Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears, full inventive allure and amusing visual jokes; this title will be great fun to read to your child.

Synopsis

Spells by Emily Gravett

A hopeful little frog tries to turn himself into a handsome prince by piecing together the torn pages of a spell book. There's just one problem - although Frog knows all about magical spells, spelling is another matter. There are lots of laugh-out-loud moments to share in this wonderful and inventive story. Have fun flipping the mix-and-match pages to follow Frog as he struggles through a host of jumbled spell combinations and extraordinary guises (Rabbit? Fabbit? Or Prabbit?) in search of his fairytale ending.

About The Author

Emily Gravett

Emily Gravett is an author/illustrator of exceptional talent. Twice winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal, her sharp wit and seemingly effortless drawing have created such brilliant picture books as Wolves, Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears, Monkey and Me and The Odd Egg. Emily lives in Brighton with her family and their two dogs, Otto and Edith.

Julia Eccleshare, the editorial expert on Lovereading4kids says, Prize-winning illustrator Emily Gravett’s distinctive illustrations are always full of wit bringing the unexpected into stories and injecting them all with delightful humour. There’s magic in Spells as a frog turns himself into a handsome prince – well, almost!, excellent advice for rabbits on how to spot the danger of wolves in Wolves, lots of useful tips on how to be braver than you feel in Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears, a thoughtful exploration of how home often turns out to be best despite feelings of wanderlust in Meerkat Mail, a celebration of exuberant movement in Monkey and Me and a fresh and delightful look at Dogs
