Julia Eccleshare's comment:
Full of affection, this is also a useful guide to how to resolve possible tensions between two grannies! Alvina loves both her grannies and she loves the different things they like doing. But, when the two grannies are left to look after her, things get very complicated. Granny Vero from Trinidad and Granny Rose from England both want to take charge. Should they play dominoes or snakes and ladders? Should they go to the zoo or feed the ducks? Luckily, Alvina comes up with a very clever solution and everyone has a wonderful time.
Shortlisted for the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards 2009.

When Alvina's parents go away on holiday,
both the grannies move in to Alvina's house to look after her. But the

different games and tell different stories. The grannies get crosser
and crosser with each other, but Alvina thinks of a way they can do all
the things their own way so the grannies can become the best of friends.
Reviews
Does a wonderful job of showing the many differences between Caribbean Granny and Yorkshire Granny. In the end they manage to bring their two worlds together to ensure that they, and the little girl, can all try a little taste of each culture, and have enormous fun together as one big, happy family. Child Care A lovely story to read to my grandchildren. A good lesson for all. Bournemouth Echo A super story to promote cultural difference, promote inclusion and use a wehicle through which children can talk about the many different kinds of families there are. It is vibrantly and affectionately illustrated story that children will love to hear again and again.Early Years Educator
About The Author
One of six children, Floella Benjamin was born in Trinidad but was brought up in England. After leaving school she spent a short time in the world of banking and accountancy, but the staid Chief Accountants Office of Barclay's Bank just didn't suit her effervescent personality and she soon found her way into the theatre. After a varied career in theatre, television and film she turned to the delights of writing.
Floella is particularly concerned with the plight of children and their human rights throughout the world and dedicates a great deal of time to supporting pressure groups and charitable organisations. She campaigned tirelessly for a Minister for Children to oversee joined up Government policy a position which is now successfully in place. Much of her time is spent touring the country, visiting children's hospitals, schools and children's homes in an effort to help advance the idea that the welfare, care and education of our children is of vital importance to our future.
