The Lovereading comment:
Known better for his crime writing for adults, this is an incredibly moving story about the life of a teenager in Sweden. Beautifully written with some stunning characters brought vividly to light and some strange and spellbinding adventures that will leave the reader in awe. It’s not surprising it has been shortlisted for The Marsh Award for Children’s Books in Translation.
If you enjoyed this then make sure you read Mankell's other titles, including Shadows in the Twilight, When the Snow Fell, and Journey to the End of the World.
