Julia Eccleshare's comment:

Tinged with sorrow and sadness this is also a heart-warming family story full of wonder and magic. For his ninth birthday, Gwyn is given five unusual gifts by his grandmother. None of them is wrapped so he knows immediately that they are a piece of seaweed, a yellow scarf, a tin whistle, a twisted metal brooch and a small broken horse. Gwyn is ready to find out if, like his ancestors, he has the making of a magician. Tossing the brooch into the wind, Gwyn is led on an adventure which may also resolve the mystery of his missing sister and heal the pain of her disappearance.

Synopsis

Snow Spider by Jenny Nimmo

This is a really good story bringing in legends and magic from Celtic Wales. If you have already read the Snow Spider and Emlyn's Moon it continues the story but a few years down the line. You don't have to have to have read them it helps a little though for background. Gwyn's magic grows within him- unwanted though it is- he faces his biggest challenge yet!

About The Author

Jenny Nimmo

Jenny Nimmo lives in a converted watermill in Wales.  Her husband, David Wynn Millward, is a painter and print-maker, and all three of her children speak Welsh fluently.  She finds Wales, a land of legends, a very inspiring place to live.

For as long as she can remember, Jenny has loved books.  At boarding school, reading was her way to overcome loneliness or boredom.  However, she is aware that not everyone finds reading comes easily, and feels passionately that every child should have all the help they need, and access to as many books as they want.
